Another prominent material of the assemblage is brick. We found nearly one hundred fragments of brick, which constitute the fireplace of the West Room. They are identifiable by their dark orange color and semi-smooth texture. The mortar was more sedimentary than brick, and a different color, and that is how we were able to separate the two types.
This type of material was prevalent within our excavation stratigraphic unit. We are not sure what this is, but it was scattered around the floor of the SU. There is a possibility that it is part of a foundation of the West Room, but we are not sure. The white speckles and lighter overall color of these pieces is what distinguishes the mortar from the brick of the fireplace.
